a few nights ago, the clouds were breathtaking. i couldn't help but feel a bit guilty. guilty for the ease in which we live our lives. guilty for the excess we don't even notice. wondering what i am doing to teach my kids of the world, and not just their lives. wishing i had the moxy to do something more than i am doing. at some point, as Bono so eloquently put it, charity is not enough. i can sponsor children, and give to countless organizations, but at some point, there has to come a time, when passing by on the other side of the road just doesn't cut it anymore. when turning my head, because the view is grim, is no longer acceptable. i want to teach my children to do. to act. to be. not to watch in complete apathy.

We have clouds like that right now out my window - the world is small sis, but oh so vast

PS I ordered Red Letters today - sounds awesome and right up my alley right now - alot of what we've been talking about at our new church

You know I am there with you. It is so exciting to see where God is taking each of us in these journeys, and it will be great to see how our kids are challenged to change the world, both now and when they are older.

Maybe creating a line of your artwork that is sold expressly for making a difference in a specific project that means something to you. Or having a day every two weeks or so that you all go as a family to a local shelter, food bank or whatever and you volunteer... or, hmm, what else...

I've been thinking about this a lot too -- my life is so insulated away from a lot of the need that is out there, it takes more conscious effort and focus to find where to put myself into action and service on behalf of those in need.

Keep asking the question, where do I serve? - but don't beat yourself up, Amy because you aren't on working full time on a foreign mission field somewhere. It's wasted energy. God has called you were you are right now. Find little ways and add them up into a lifestyle of making a difference by being in service to others. (I'm talking to myself here too!)
